$714,000 to the University of Northern Iowa from U.S. Department of Transportation

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration has awarded $714,000 to the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

"These funds will help the Multimodal Facility at UNI use alternative energy sources to power the building," Grassley said.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the University of Northern Iowa will use the money to help install solar panels at the Multimodal Facility to provide the total amount of electricity required by the facility.  The panels will be connected to the campus power grid so that electricity generated during the day can be used and will offset the peak facility need which will occur at night.  Metering will be installed to insure that the facility is credited with the appropriate amount of energy generated.
