WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded an $82,514 grant to the University of Northern Iowa through the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Program.
“These funds will help educators at the University of Northern Iowa better understand global trends and then compare those observations to local trends to effectively prepare social-science curriculum,” Grassley said.
According to the Department of Education, the University of Northern Iowa will use the grant to funds to study the issues of rural depopulation, rapid urbanization, and international migration in Chile and the greater Latin American region as well as Iowa/Midwest and the larger North American region in order to develop a more effective social science curriculum.
The Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Program provides grants to support overseas projects in training, research and curriculum development in modern foreign languages and are studies for teachers, students, and faculty. Projects may include short-term seminars, curriculum development, group research or study, or advanced intensive language programs.
