WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development will award competitive loans, grants and loan guarantees totaling $876,250 to Iowa projects through the Community Facilities Loan and Grant Program.
“These funds will help purchase, build or make necessary improvements to facilities important to these rural communities,” Grassley said.
• Belmond Community Hospital in Belmond will receive a $100,000 grant to help purchase a new medical records system. Wright County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
• Dow City-Arion Community Fire Department in Dow City will receive a $131,250 grant to help purchase a tanker fire truck and other emergency equipment. Crawford County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.
• Duncombe Community Fire Commission in Duncombe will receive a $90,000 loan and a $100,000 grant to help purchase a new fire truck and emergency equipment. Webster County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
• Gravity Community Fire Department in Gravity will receive a $40,000 loan to help purchase a new tanker/pumper fire truck and other emergency equipment. Taylor County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.
• Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua will receive a $200,000 loan guarantee to help construct a new two-level 7,424 square foot child care facility located on hospital property that includes child care for 75 students, Head Start, Parents as First Teachers, job opportunities and WIC services. Keosauqua was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.
• Vail Volunteer Fire Department in Vail will receive a $42,500 loan and a $172,500 grant to help purchase a pumper fire truck and other emergency equipment. Crawford County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.
The Community Facilities Loan and Grant program provides grants, loans and loan guarantees to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
