Chairman Grassley Announces Sixth Hearing on Protecting U.S. Elections

WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has announced a Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism hearing entitled: “Protecting Our Elections: Examining Shell Companies and Virtual Currencies as Avenues for Foreign Interference” for Tuesday, June 26 at 2:30 p.m. in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

This will be the sixth full committee or subcommittee hearing held under Grassley’s leadership on protecting the integrity of U.S. elections.

BACKGROUND:

  • On June 12, 2018, Grassley held a full committee hearing entitled “Election Interference: Ensuring Law Enforcement is Equipped to Target Those Seeking to Do Harm.”

  • On March 15, 2018, Grassley authorized a Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism hearing chaired by Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina entitled “The Modus Operandi and Toolbox of Russia and Other Autocracies for Undermining Democracies Throughout the World.”

  • On May 8, 2017, Grassley authorized a Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism hearing chaired by Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina entitled “Russian Interference in the 2016 United States Election.” Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified.
