RE:      DOJ OIG report on Foreign Language Translation Program

Senator Chuck Grassley made the following comment after the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General released its third audit on the Foreign Language Translation Program at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

“You have to give credit to the FBI for the recent arrests of terrorists in the United States who were looking to wreck havoc on our country, but there’s a big hole if the translation department isn’t up to par.  These shortcomings just make it harder to get the bad guys.  Today’s report appears to point to more of the same by the FBI with its translation department.  The FBI needs their feet held to the fire in order to make substantive changes in the translation area.  It’s imperative that the FBI make the changes recommended by the inspector general as soon as possible.”
