The report found major weaknesses associated with the FBI's Information Technology (IT) program. The Justice Department Inspector General concludes that shortcomings with the IT department resulted from the FBI not devoting sufficient management attention in the past to IT investment management.
The audit also reviewed the FBI's management of the Trilogy, the largest and most critical FBI IT project. Despite additional funding, the FBI missed its July milestone date for completing the physical IT infrastructure upgrades to field offices.
Here is Grassley's statement.
"It looks like the FBI is playing with Lincoln Logs this Christmas season while everybody else is playing with X-Box and Play Station. The FBI's computers are a money pit, but they're so obsolete that we have little choice about spending more money to fix them so the FBI can do its job of protecting the American people. I'm not surprised about this latest example of the lack of institutional accountability at the FBI."
