RE: Flooding in Iowa
DA: Monday, June 9, 2008
Senator Chuck Grassley today released the following statement after rain continued to pound much of Iowa. Grassley’s hometown of New Hartford was evacuated last night.
"Iowans continue to show their resilience as waters rise across much of the state. Everybody is pitching in and getting the job done for their friends and neighbors. Sandbagging is occurring in communities throughout central and eastern Iowa, and my hometown of New Hartford was hit hard once again after a tornado whipped through two weeks ago. My staff has been travelling to communities in the areas hit by flooding, as well as calling city and county officials offering any assistance my office can provide. And, if Governor Culver believes it’s necessary for federal assistance, I will offer my full support to President Bush for his request."
