Forum to help Iowans needing mortgage and foreclosure assistance on Saturday

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today reminded Iowans that this weekend his office is hosting a free foreclosure prevention and mortgage assistance fair in Des Moines.  The event will take place on June 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Walnut Center at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.  Parking is available west of the Walnut Center.

“The dream of home ownership is being threatened by increasing foreclosure rates.  Now, the devastating floods may put additional pressure on homeowners.  This forum will provide a forum for Iowans to talk to lenders and counselors to help keep their families in their homes,” Grassley said

Grassley’s office is bringing together several organizations to assist homeowners. He invited several lenders as well as mortgage and credit counselors from the Des Moines area who will be on hand to answer questions.  He also secured the participation of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Iowa Home Ownership Education Project, Iowa Legal Aid and Iowa Mediation Services.

Homeowners are asked to bring personal financial records to the event including loan information and mortgage statements, copies of the last two pay stubs, bank statements, most recent tax return, proof of homeowners insurance, and any foreclosure notices from the lender.

“A lot of good can come out of simply talking to lenders and counselors. Many experts believe that only 50 percent of people who have gone through foreclosure proceedings have talked to their lender.  This fair will provide Iowans the opportunity to sit down with experts who can work through issues and help avoid foreclosure,” Grassley said.  “I hope people will take advantage of the experts who will be available at this fair.”
