Grassley: $150,000 to Iowa from U.S. Department of Justice


            WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has awarded a $150,000 grant to the Community Corrections Improvement Association in Cedar Rapids through the Weed and Seed Program.
 
            The funds will be used to help law enforcement efforts that focus on improving coordination and collaborative efforts between various law enforcement agencies to streamline enforcement initiatives and reduce crime, to strengthen police and community cooperation to report and ultimately reduce crime, to work with community groups and economic institutions to identify and assist at-risk youth and families in the area and to help neighborhood restoration efforts to improve and increase affordable housing in the community. 
 
          “These funds will help the community and law enforcement work cohesively in their efforts to reduce crime,” Grassley said.
 
            The Central Cedar Rapids Weed and Seed site is comprised of the Mound View, Northwest, Oakhill/Jackson, Taylor and Wellington Heights neighborhoods.
 
            The Weed and Seed Program is a strategy within the U.S. Department of Justice that incorporates community-based initiatives. It is an innovative and comprehensive multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and community revitalization.
