WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded a $354,246 grant to Iowa through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
“The storms thousands of Iowans witnessed this summer show just how important first responders are to local safety,” Grassley said. “This money will help make sure these fire departments have the equipment and personnel necessary to keep the community safe.”
The funds were awarded through the Operations and Safety Program. The Operations and Safety Program helps provide training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities to fire departments.
The Assistance to Firefighters, Operation and Safety Program grant funds will be distributed as shown below.
v Elma Fire Department will receive $302,043.
v Exira Fire and Rescue will receive $2,328
v Panama/Washington Township will receive $49,875.
