Grassley: $564,801 to Iowa from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security


 

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded $564,801 in grants to Iowa through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
 
“These funds will help these fire departments provide training and purchase equipment to better keep their communities safe,” Grassley said.
 
This funding is part of round 5 of the fiscal 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, Operations and Safety program and Vehicle Acquisition program. 
 
The Operations and Safety program helps provide training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities to fire departments. 
 
The Vehicle Acquisition program helps provide vehicles such as pumpers, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, quints, aerials, foam units and fireboats to fire departments.
           
The grant funds from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be distributed as shown below.
 
  • Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department will receive $251,750 through the Vehicle Acquisition program.
  • Hamburg Fire Department will receive $51,585 through the Operations and Safety program.
  • Kalona Volunteer Fire Department will receive $16,433 through the Operations and Safety program.
  • Urbandale Fire Department will receive $67,858 through the Operations and Safety program.
  • Wapello Volunteer Fire Department will receive $177,175 through the Vehicle Acquisition program.
