WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has awarded two grants totaling $702,455 to Iowa.
“By providing training and information about domestic and dating violence and sexual assault, victims will have places to turn rather than staying in the shadows,” Grassley said. “These funds will help better keep our communities safe.”
The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded funds as described below.
v Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault in Des Moines will receive a $2,455 grant to help increase access to training events at the state and local level to help build the capacity of criminal justice and victim advocacy organizations to better address domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence.
v Sioux Human Investment Partnership in Sioux City will receive a $700,000 grant to help increase the safety of rural victims of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking through the collaboration of a community-based victim advocacy organization, domestic violence educators and the faith-based community by educating regional clergy and regional congregations about domestic and dating violence issues, training congregation members to serve as mentors, serving rural victims and their children to increase residential stability, skills, income, self-determination and sustain family unity and creating public awareness campaigns in rural areas to promote a coordinated community response to domestic and dating violence.
