Grassley: $703,000 to Four Iowa Fire Departments



WASHINGTON

– Sen. Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded $703,000 in grants to four Iowa fire departments. The funds are through the Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program

 

 


           

"It’s important our first responders have the necessary equipment to help Iowans feel secure," Grassley said. “These funds will allow fire departments to keep their communities safe and improve their facilities and programs.” 

 

 

            Three fire departments will receive funding through the Operations and Safety Program. These funds can be used to train firefighting personnel, establish wellness and fitness programs, purchase protective equipment, and improve fire stations and facilities.

 

 

            Here is the allocation of the Operations and Safety Program Grants.

 

 

Melcher Dallas Fire Department- $33,487

 

Peterson Fire Department- $154,613

 

Walnut Fire & Rescue- $38,950

 

 

The Creston Fire Departmentwas awarded a $475,950grant through the Vehicle Acquisition Program.  These funds can be used to purchase pumpers, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, quints, aerials, foam units, and fireboats.

 

 

            This funding is part of round 25 of the fiscal 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Awards.  The federal program distributes funds to local fire departments to improve the effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, and to establish or expand fire prevention program.
