WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development has awarded $112,000 to Midwest Old Settlers and Threshers Association through the Community Facility Grant Program.
These funds will be used to perform improvements on the Heritage Building in Henry County. Earlier this year President Obama declared Henry County a federal disaster area which made it eligible for individual and community assistance.
“These funds will help rebuild and restore the Heritage Building after being damaged by a heavy snowfall earlier this year,” Grassley said.
According to the USDA, Community Facility Grant funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community services.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
