Grassley Announces 23 Grants to Iowa Communities

? Sen. Chuck Grassley today announced funding for 23 Iowa communities from the United States Department of Agriculture. The money is part of the Community Facilities Economic Impact Initiative grant program."These grants will help in the development of important community services and facilities in several Iowa communities. The selected rural areas will use the money to develop essential medical, fire fighting, maintenance, and child care facilities," Grassley said. "Grants such as these are critical to the economic development, health and well-being of many rural communities."The projects funded must be essential community facilities and services for public use in rural communities. The community must have a population less than 20,000 and have an unemployment rate of at least 19 percent.

Following are the awards.

Afton, $2,100 ? Funds will be used to purchase new protective equipment for the fire department.

Allerton, $58,500 ? Funds will be used to remodel a fire department training center and senior citizen center.

Anthon, $50,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a new ambulance.

Aredale, $12,500 ? Funds will be used to purchase a newer, used fire truck.

Bussey, $99,000 ? Funds will be used to a construct a new fire station.

Chester, $44,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase fire equipment, including a tanker truck and rescue gear.

Diagonal, $3,375 ? Funds will be used to purchase a used pumper fire truck.

Dunlap Fire and Rescue, $80,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a new pumper fire truck. Dunlap provides fire and rescue services in a 166 square mile area in Harrison, Shelby, Crawford and Monona Counties.

George, $37,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a new ambulance.

Grand River, $30,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a fire truck for use with brush fires.

Hillsboro, $5,200 ? Funds will be used to construct an addition to a fire station to house fire equipment.

Little Sioux? Grant Township VFG, Smithland, $30,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a fire truck.

Livermore, $29,400 ? Funds will be used to purchase fire truck equipment.

Lockridge, $4,150 ? Funds will be used to purchase a first responder truck.

Moville, $7,500 ? Funds will be used to purchase a rescue truck.

Nemaha, $47,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a fire truck and fire equipment.

Osceola, $3,600 ? Funds will be used to purchase video camera equipment for police cars.

     $1,450 ? Funds will be used to purchase equipment for operating the fire department's Jaws of Life.

Oto Fire Fighters Association, $5,100 ? Funds will be used to purchase rescue equipment; jaws of life spreader and ram.

Pilot Mound, $100,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a new fire truck.

Stanley, $25,000 ? Funds will be used to purchase a fire truck.

Valley Community Schools, Elgin, Iowa, $100,000 ? Funds will be used to construct an early childhood development/community wellness center.

Volga Community Fire Department, $11,250 ? Funds will be used to purchase a fire truck.
