Grassley Announces $267,868 for Kamrar and Shenandoah

WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development has awarded two grants totaling $30,000 to Kamrar, and three grants totaling $237,868 to Shenandoah, through the Community Disaster Grant Program.

Kamrar will use $7,500 to purchase ambulance medical gear and $22,500 to purchase a tanker fire truck.

Shenandoah will use $41,475 to purchase ambulance medical gear, $100,000 to purchase hospital beds, and $96,393 to purchase a Heart Telemetry and Patient Monitoring Network.

“Modern equipment will enable these communities to better respond to emergencies,” Grassley said.

According to the USDA, Community Facility Grant funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community services.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
