WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development has awarded six grants totaling $215,910 to Iowa through the Community Facility Grant Program.
“These funds will be used to make these communities even better places to live and work,” Grassley said.
USDA will distribute the money as shown below ordered alphabetically by town.
• Afton will receive $8,700 to purchase a police vehicle and related equipment
• Union County CARE Residential Facility in Creston will receive $12,610 to purchase and install a fixed power generator and two automatic handicap accessible doors
• Lamoni Community School District will receive $53,350 to purchase and install a new playground
• Discovery Day Care Center in Pocahontas will receive $37,500 to purchase and renovate a childcare facility and to purchase equipment
• Nishna Productions, Inc. in Red Oak will receive $3,750 to replace a portion of the sidewalk at the Red Oak work center
• Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset will receive $100,000 to purchase and install a digital mammography system
According to the USDA, Community Facility Grant funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community services.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
