Grassley Announces $350,000 Grant to Farmers

Sen. Chuck Grassley received notice late Tuesday that 70 dislocated farmers, eligible family members and farmhands will get help in finding jobs under a $350,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

"During this difficult time, some farmers have unfortunately had to make a career change," Grassley said. "These funds will help provide some plausible alternatives for our small producers. In addition, I am going to do all I can to keep independent farmers on the farm."

Participants will be eligible for retraining as precision wood workers, computer engineers and systems analysts, electronic and data process equipment operators, truck drivers, portable machine cutters and stonemasons.

Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo and Matura, Inc. in Creston will operate the project.
