Three counties were designated as primary disaster areas and nine counties were designated as contiguous disaster counties.
The three counties designated as primary disaster areas are Clay, O'Brien and Sioux. Buena Vista, Cherokee, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth and Pocahontas were designated as contiguous disaster counties.
"This is good news for the family farmers in these counties. The bad weather that occurred in Northwest Iowa last fall had a tremendous impact and caused a lot of damage," Grassley said. "This funding will help the farmers hurt by this destructive weather."
Designation as primary or contiguous disaster area makes family-sized farm operators in each county eligible to be considered for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency.
