Grassley Announces Federal Judgeship Application Deadline

? Sen. Chuck Grassley today said that Iowans who are interested in applying for a federal judgeship in the Northern District of Iowa should submit their applications by Feb. 15.

President Bush is expected to nominate an individual to serve as United States District Judge for the Northern District of Iowa. A judgeship in the Northern District will become vacant when the Senate confirms U.S. District Judge Michael Melloy to serve on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on Melloy's nomination last week.

Grassley said he wants to make sure that all Iowans are aware of the opportunity to serve. He invited those making application to let him know of their interest before Feb. 15 by writing to him at 206 Federal Building, 101 First Street, SE, Cedar Rapids, 52401, Attention: Mary Day. Grassley said he plans to recommend three Iowans to the President for the judgeship.

Melloy has been a judge in the Northern District of Iowa for more than nine years. The Northern District is made up of two district judges, two senior judges and two magistrate judges who preside over cases from 52 counties in Iowa.
