"Safety and crime are serious concerns in many towns across the state, and anything that we can do to protect our communities is essential," Grassley said. "I know that having enough police officers on the streets is important to those who live in West Des Moines and this money comes as welcome news."
Grants are awarded to provide a designated portion of the salary and benefits of each new officer over three years only. In total, the recent announcement provided $15 million to hire 215 police officers in 69 cities and towns across the nation.
