Calling Iowa women to come together for a one-day non-partisan, non-political motivational conference, Sen. Chuck Grassley and his wife Barbara invite women of all ages and backgrounds to attend "Iowa Women 2000: Linking & Learning," from 8:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., on Monday, August 10, at the Hy-Vee Conference Center, 5820 Westown Parkway, in West Des Moines.

"Women deal every day with life's challenges and choices presented by their individual personal, family, workplace, and community experiences," said Grassley. "That's the common link that ties women in Iowa of all ages and backgrounds to one another. Whether it's providing care to an aging parent, squeezing in weekend classes to earn an advanced degree, or finding the best child-care option for your family, women work tirelessly to make all the pieces fit the puzzle."

Working to provide Iowa women the opportunity to draw and learn from one another's experiences, the Grassleys will host for the fifth time an inspirational forum that again features locally and nationally acclaimed presenters. They have hosted four previous conferences in West Des Moines, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport. Career counselor and WHO Radio host, Roxanne Rogers, will serve as moderator throughout the day.

The four featured speakers include:

  • Elizabeth Dole, president of the American Red Cross
  • Evelyne Villines, motivational speaker and advocate for people with disabilities
  • Dr. Judi Kosterman; educator and former Washington state drug czar
  • David Williamson, Iowa poet and sculptor

"Attendance and feedback at our previous conferences indicate that this is an affordable, worthwhile opportunity to network with other professionals, homemakers, entrepreneurs, students, and community leaders," said Grassley. "Plus, with such a dynamic roster of speakers, it's a sure-fire way to start out the work week and rejuvenate for the fall."

To register, make check payable to Hy-Vee, Inc. The $20 conference fee also includes a continental breakfast, lunch and conference materials. Sign language interpreters will be provided. Mail registration to Women 2000, P.O. Box 93331, Des Moines, IA 50393. For more information, contact Grassley's Des Moines office, (515) 284-4890.
