WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that approximately 250 workers in Marshalltown are eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance and Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance.
Workers from Lennox Manufacturing in Marshalltown who totally or partially lost their jobs on or after June 26, 2007 through two years from the date of certification are eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance and Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance.
“The assistance will give all of the eligible workers who were employed by Lennox an opportunity to receive training for new skills so they can compete for new jobs in the future. It will help these employees get back on their feet,” Grassley said.
The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Program is a federal program that provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports. The TAA program offers a variety of benefits and reemployment services to help unemployed workers prepare for and obtain suitable employment. Workers may be eligible for training, job search and relocation allowances, income support, and other reemployment services.
Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance provides assistance for workers over the age of 50 and retraining may not be appropriate.
