Grassley Asks IRS to Assist Taxpayers Affected by Major Flooding
WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today directed his staff to ask for the IRS Commissioner’s help to ensure Iowans affected by severe weather receive an extension to the June 16 quarterly tax filing deadline.
“The first priority of all Iowans is to seek safety from the rising flood waters. They should be working to protect their families, not worrying about filing their taxes. This historic weather is certainly cause for an extension to the deadline,” Grassley said. “The Commissioner has assured my staff that the IRS will do everything in its power to provide relief to Iowa taxpayers who may miss the June 16 deadline.”
Taxpayers choosing to pay in quarterly installments face a June 16 deadline. Both tornadoes and flooding led many Iowans to call Grassley’s offices and explain that the extenuating circumstances would prevent them from meeting the deadline.
Senator Grassley will continue monitor the IRS’ efforts to provide relief to affected taxpayers.
