Grassley: Boone Student Selected by Naval Academy

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said today that Zachary David Elsner of Boone has been selected for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland for the 2012-2013 school year.

Zachary will graduate in May from Boone High School.  He is the son of Susan and David Elsner.

“Admission to the Naval Academy is highly competitive and a great honor,” Grassley said.  “Students like Zachary work incredibly hard to earn this kind of opportunity, and I join many others, no doubt, in wishing him well and expressing appreciation for his commitment to serving our nation.”

Throughout high school Zachary has been active in National Honor Society, student council, Boy State, baseball, track, football, Key Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and the State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council.

Zachary was one of the Iowa students Grassley recommended this year for appointments to the U.S. service academies.  Information about seeking a nomination is posted at /students/academy-nominations.

For more than 200 years, the U.S. service academies have educated and trained the best and the brightest to lead and command the U.S. armed forces.
