Grassley Comment on Defeat of Bipartisan Economic Stimulus Bill

? Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Senate Committee on Finance, issued the following comment about the Senate vote to defeat of a bipartisan economic stimulus bill.

"Apparently Sen. Daschle is willing to put at risk Americans who may be on the verge of losing their jobs in the economic slowdown. In a calculated effort to score political points in an election-year, the Majority Leader was afraid to let the pro-growth bipartisan package make it to a final vote because it would have done just that: jump-start the economy. Instead, Sen. Daschle torched bipartisanship and signaled he wants to play the blame game for the next 10 months. Taking a political risk comes with the territory in Washington, but it's really too bad the Democratic leadership is willing to gamble away this opportunity to help boost the economy. It's a sad day when politics trumps good public policy."
