Grassley Congratulates Iowans for Awards from the Small Business Association

WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley is recognizing three Iowans who received awards from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

“Small businesses are the engines that drive our economy,” Grassley said.  “I salute these three Iowans and will continue to work for passage of legislation that encourages private-sector job creation.”

Kenneth Robert Hach II and Tara Lynn Hach of Anemometry Specialists, Inc., in Alta, were recognized as the Small Business Persons of the Year from Iowa.  According to the Small Business Administration, Small Business Persons of the Year are chosen based on business staying power, growth in number of employees, increase in sales or unit volume, financial reports, innovation, response to adversity, and contributions to their community.

Amber Janey of Rockwell Collins, in Cedar Rapids, received the Eisenhower Procurement Award.  According to the Small Business Administration, Eisenhower Procurement Awards are given to large prime contractors who use small businesses as suppliers and contractors.  Winners are chosen based on performance of the small business liaison, outreach efforts in regard to small businesses, assistance to small businesses, mentor-protégé programs, receipt of other awards, use of the Central Contractor Registration’s Dynamic Small Business Search Engine for identification of potential vendors, nomination under the Small Business Subcontractor of the Year Award Program in past years, and federal agencies the company has worked with previously.

In 2009, Grassley introduced the Comprehensive Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2009, to enact tax changes that will be beneficial to small businesses.  Earlier this year, Grassley worked to pass amendments to the Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010, that will reduce burdensome regulations, will guarantee privacy rights are respected in the law, and will not limit small business access to credit.  In May, 2010, Grassley received the Special Congressional Appreciation Award from the Small Business Council of America for his efforts to encourage the success of America’s small businesses.
