WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley today discussed the current flooding in Davenport. Video of his comments can be found here and the text can be found below.
As we remember about five weeks ago, we had to talk about the catastrophe on the Missouri river with the drastic flooding in southwest Iowa. Today, and starting yesterday, the catastrophe hit Davenport in Scott County and surrounding areas as temporary barriers have broken. Obviously, there’s going to be a lot of need for money from the federal government under the FEMA programs to help this situation. Our hearts go out to those who have been hurt and my office in Davenport as well as here in Washington, DC is going to monitor it and do what we do for flood victims everywhere – try to make sure that the obligations of the federal government as the insurer of last resort are met under the laws that have been on the books a long period of time. When money runs out, it’s replenished.
