Grassley: Funding for Iowa Projects Included in Transportation Spending Bill


? Sen. Chuck Grassley today said that the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee has included funding for several Iowa projects as part of its spending plan for the next fiscal year.

"Funding for these projects would improve Iowans' access to businesses and services," Grassley said. "Sound transportation systems are vital to a city's infrastructure and economic development."

The full Senate Appropriations Committee is expected to consider the fiscal 2003 Transportation Appropriations Bill later this week. Following are the list of Iowa projects that were included in the legislation:

?State of Iowa ? $8 million for statewide bus and facilities replacement;

?State of Iowa ? $1.65 million for statewide Intelligent Transportation System technology to connect transit systems and improve communications;

?State of Iowa ? $2 million for Job Access/Reverse Commute programs to help low-income Iowans gain access to transportation for training, child care and employment;

?Clinton ? $1.5 million for reconstruction and extension of 19th Avenue;

?Council Bluffs ? $2 million for study and design of U.S. 6 (Broadway Street) urban viaduct;

?Des Moines?$5 million for extension of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway.
