WASHINGTON – Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire sent a
letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan expressing concern over the rise in domestic non-Foreign Terrorist Organization inspired terrorism over the last few years. The letter also requests information about what steps DHS has taken to mitigate and prevent this threat in order to protect the safety and security of Americans.
“We write to express concern over the rise in domestic non-Foreign Terrorist Organization inspired terrorism over the past few years—as noted in the Trump Administration’s Counterterrorism Strategy and countless non-governmental reports—and request information about what steps the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is taking to prevent and mitigate this threat to ensure public safety,”
the senators wrote. “Public safety is paramount and understanding, preventing, and building resilience to the threat of domestic terrorism is critical to ensure that we keep our nation secure from all threats.”
In the letter, Grassley and Hassan posed a series of questions, including whether DHS has a specific strategy to address the rise in domestic terrorism and how much of its budget is devoted to addressing domestic terrorism.
