"Iowans will first experience tax relief this year when they begin to receive rebate checks towards the end of the summer," Grassley said. "In fact, many people already know what they are going to do with their money. Iowans can determine when their check will be in the mail by using the calculator on my website."
Grassley said that taxpayers can find out the approximate date that the U.S. Treasury will be mailing their rebate check by going to his website at http://grassley.senate.gov and entering the last two digits of their Social Security number in the interactive tax rebate calculator. The rebate checks will amount to as much as $300 for individual taxpayers, as much as $500 for heads of households and as much as $600 for joint returns.
The tax rebate checks will be issued under the comprehensive tax relief legislation recently passed by Congress, under Grassley's leadership, and signed by President Bush last week. The Internal Revenue Service estimates it will send 95 million rebate checks starting in July and ending in October. Iowans are estimated to receive 974,000 rebate checks totaling $426 million dollars.
