WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa was presented with the 2018 “Innovator in Biotechnology” award today by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO). The award recognizes Members of Congress “who have been collaborative partners, advocates, and champions for the biotechnology and life sciences industries,” according to the group.

“Thanks to innovations in the biotech industry, Iowa’s crops are more resilient and productive than ever, with crop yields today that were unimaginable just a few decades ago. With these achievements, Iowa has been able to continue to feed and fuel a growing world.” Grassley said. It’s an honor to receive this award and work on behalf of the biotechnologies that deliver economic opportunity and prosperity to thousands of Iowans.”

“Sen. Grassley’s leadership in supporting the biotechnology industry has supported 24,540 jobs in Iowa. Biotechnology Innovation Organization advocates for successful innovation across healthcare, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology. The biotechnology industry supports 24,540 jobs across 1,282 establishments in Iowa.
