Grassley Makes Summer Internships Available to Iowa Students
Grassley said that college-age interns are selected to work during two, six-week sessions in his office in Washington, and that similar opportunities are available in each of the six offices he maintains in Iowa for constituent services and casework. Applications for these summer internships which begin in mid-May and early July must be submitted by April 1.
"These internships are terrific opportunities for college students to gain work experience while learning about the legislative branch of our federal government," Grassley said. "I encourage students of all areas of study to consider the value of learning more about the process of representative government. Working in a Senate office can enhance a college education and make students more competitive job applicants when they graduate. Several of my current staff members are former interns."
Interns in Grassley's office are assigned to assist permanent staff members who have responsibilities for legislation, constituent services, media relations, or administrative work. Grassley said that summer interns on Capitol Hill also have opportunities to attend Congressional hearings, informational briefings at the Library of Congress, as well as lectures by Supreme Court Justices, Cabinet Members, Senators and Representatives.
Application forms for internships in the Office of Sen. Chuck Grassley are available at www.senate.gov/grassley/intern.htm, or in the placement offices of Iowa colleges and universities, as well as in Grassley's offices in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Sioux City, and Waterloo. An application may also be requested by writing to: Senator Chuck Grassley, 135 Senate Hart Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510-1501 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
