Grassley Meets With Air Force Secretary to Discuss Spending, Solutions
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa met with Secretary of the Air Force Dr. Heather Wilson to discuss overspending at the Air Force and what steps the department is taking to reduce costs and encourage innovation.
“I appreciate Secretary Wilson coming to speak with me to address some of the questions I’ve raised about wasteful spending in her department,” Grassley said. “I also want to applaud her efforts, and those of many in her department, who are determined to reduce costs and put a greater focus on innovation. I look forward to continued communication with Secretary Wilson and her staff to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being well-spent.”
Grassley has made oversight and accountability a hallmark of his service in the U.S. Senate. Following reports that the Pentagon was paying $1,280 for individual cups, Grassley sent a letter to Secretary Wilson seeking more information. Grassley sent a follow-up letter posing additional questions after Secretary Wilson’s October 17 response to Grassley’s original letter. The Air Force stopped purchasing the expensive cups following Grassley’s inquiry.
