Grassley: More Than $1 Million in Grants to Iowa from USDA


  

WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded grants totaling $1,027,244.47 to Iowa through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program and the Housing Preservation Grant Program.

 

“This funding will help Iowa communities by providing equipment and facilities that will provide an economic boost, help keep the communities safe in emergencies and help repair low income housing,” Grassley said.

 

The Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program provides grants to eligible communities with populations under 20,000 to assist with projects that provide an economic stimulus to the communities.

 

The Housing Preservation Grant Program provides grants to sponsoring organizations for the repair or rehabilitation of low and very low income housing.

 

The funds will be distributed from USDA as shown below.

 

v Braddyville will receive a $33,000 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a tractor and loader to be used for snow removal, emergency services and routine maintenance services.

v Region XII Council of Governments in Carroll will receive a $53,870.24 grant through the Housing Preservation Grant Program to assist 22 very low income families to eliminate health and safety hazards and increase energy conservation in their homes to reduce heating and cooling bills.

v Cornerstone Community Church in Chariton will receive a $66,000 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the expansion of a local youth center including a new entrance, hallway, restrooms, insulation of the gym and a heating and cooling system.

v Charles City will receive an $87,500 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a fire truck.

v Charter Oak will receive a $9,300 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase and installation of an emergency generator system.

v Wayne County Hospital in Corydon will receive a $40,240 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with refurbishing an existing ambulance and purchasing cardiac monitoring equipment for the two ambulances.

v Greater regional Healthcare Foundation in Creston will receive a $14,500 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with purchasing hospice equipment for the Greater Regional Medical Center Hospice Home.

v Kornerstone Kids Child Care in Hamburg will receive a $20,539 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the construction costs of a child care center.

v Inwood will receive a $2,700 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of an emergency warning siren.

v Malvern Area Betterment Association in Malvern will receive a $60,000 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the construction of a public health services building.

v Good Neighbor Society in Manchester will receive a $27,335 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of an emergency wireless disaster preparedness communication system to connect emergency personnel, doctors, nurses and residents.

v Manchester will receive a $60,000 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the construction of an addition to the present fire station.

v Region 6 Planning Commission in Marshalltown will receive a $53,870.23 grant through the Housing Preservation Grant Program to assist 12 very low income families to eliminate health and safety hazards and increase energy conservation in their homes to reduce heating and cooling bills.

v Monticello will receive a $3,400 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of an ambulance and a $22,900 grant to help purchase a fire truck.

v Moorhead will receive a $27,500 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a tractor to be used for street cleaning, snow removal and general city maintenance.

v Onawa will receive a $243,000 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the construction of a new fire station.

v Red Oak will receive a $150,000 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a fire truck.

v Rock Rapids will receive a $37,500 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a fire truck.

v Shenandoah will receive a $14,000 grant through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a new emergency warning siren system.
