WASHINGTON C Sen. Chuck Grassley today announced that the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded grants totaling $106,766 for three projects in Iowa .
The University of Iowa was awarded a $50,400 grant for a project titled “Central America’s Encounter with U.S. Manifest Destiny, 1848- 1860,” and a grant of $50,400 for a project titled “The Rise and Fall of Christian Nagaski, 1560- 1640.”
The German American Heritage Center in Davenport was awarded a $4,966 Preservation Assistance Grant for a project titled “Developing a Long Rang Plan for the Care of the Humanities Collection at the GermanAmericanHeritageCenter .” The funds will help preserve the documentation of German immigration and settlement in Davenport from 1795 to the present.
AThese funds will help promote an understanding of the German influence in Davenport and how it has impacted the community’s culture and history," Grassley said.
