WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) nominated 28 Iowa students to be considered for appointments to the U.S. service academies.
“These young Iowans who wish to pursue a world-class education while serving our nation are remarkable reflections of our state. Their strong academic records, enthusiasm for service and commitment to growing their leadership skills are characteristics that will surely help them move our country forward,” Grassley said. “I’m honored to nominate 28 extraordinary men and women to our nation’s prestigious service academies and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in their future endeavors.”
Each year, Grassley nominates current and future Iowa high school graduates for a select few service academy placements. The U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point and U.S. Naval Academy each select at least one qualified student from Grassley’s nominations every year.
Given the competitive nature of admissions, Grassley encourages Iowa students to apply to more than one service academy. Students may also seek multiple nominations, as all Iowa’s U.S. senators and representatives make nominations. Students interested in academy appointments should begin the application process in the spring of their junior year of high school. Early application is encouraged.
Traditionally, several Iowa students are admitted to each service academy. These students then choose whether to attend. Learn more about service academy nominations HERE.
