Grassley has recommended three candidates for U.S. Attorney in Iowa's northern district and four candidates for the southern district. Candidates for the northern district are Michael Hobart of Sioux City, Charles Larson of Des Moines and Mark Schouten of Orange City. Candidates for the southern district are Steve Colloton of Des Moines, Rick Crowl of Council Bluffs, Robert Dopf of Des Moines and Stephen O'Meara of Des Moines.
"All of these candidates are extremely qualified and their service as one of the state's lead federal prosecutors would serve Iowans well," Grassley said.
Grassley also named three U.S. Marshal nominees for each of Iowa's districts. Candidates for the northern district are Richard Heft of Cedar Rapids, Timothy Junker of Allison and John Quinn of Cedar Rapids. Candidates for the southern district are Charles Beach of Des Moines, Eugene Meyer of West Des Moines and Lance Olson of Marengo.
"I'm confident that these individuals have the necessary experience to effectively serve as federal law enforcement officers in Iowa," Grassley said.
U.S. Attorneys prosecute federal criminal and civil rights cases. U.S. Marshals provide protection for federal judges, investigate federal fugitives, transport federal prisoners and protect federal witnesses. Iowa's southern district is based in Des Moines and the northern district is based in Cedar Rapids.
According to Grassley, President Bush will forward one name for each position to the Senate Judiciary Committee for confirmation.
