Grassley Nominates Young Iowans to Service Academies

? Praising the outstanding group of Iowa students seeking nominations to the U.S. military academies, Sen. Chuck Grassley today announced his selections for placement at the United States Military Academies. Grassley's nominations will be forwarded to West Point Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. for final selection.

According to Grassley, the highly competitive selection process makes it difficult to narrow the list of nominees each year. "Iowans who contact me in hopes of entrance to one of our service academies are outstanding young people. They are not just good students, but they are involved in extra-curricular school activities and active in their communities. It's inspiring to see such high achievers and talented young Iowans," he said.

From Grassley's nominees, each academy will select students to fill available vacancies for the 2003/2004 school year.
