Grassley: Over $17 million to Iowa in a National Emergency Grant

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that Iowa will receive a National Emergency Grant of $17,127,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor. An initial $6 million has been made available to Iowa Workforce Development through the National Emergency Grant Program.

“This grant will help provide temporary jobs to help with the clean-up and recovery efforts for workers that were dislocated by the disasters,” Grassley said. “This is a win-win for everybody.”

The National Emergency Grant funds can be used to provide temporary employment on projects for the clean-up, demolition, repair, renovation and reconstruction of destroyed public structures, facilities and land within the affected communities. Funds can also be used to provide food, clothing, shelter, and other humanitarian assistance for disaster victims. The funds may also be used to perform work on the homes of economically disadvantaged individuals who are eligible for the federally funded weatherization program, with priority given to services for the elderly and individuals with disabilities.

National Emergency Grants are available to states upon verification that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has declared a disaster area eligible for public assistance.

Current counties covered by these grants include Adams, Black Hawk, Boone, Buchanan, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Clayton, Crawford, Dallas, Delaware, Dubuque, Floyd, Franklin, Grundy, Howard, Iowa, Linn, Marion, Marshall, Mitchell, Ringgold, Story, Tama, Union, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright.
