Grassley Pays Tribute to Iowa Veterans

May 15, 2018

WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa today paid tribute to 93 veterans from Eastern Iowa who were visiting the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice, including the World War II, Vietnam and Korean War memorials, as well as the Arlington National Cemetery, as part of the Honor Flight program.

Photos of Grassley meeting with veterans are available here.

“The Honor Flight program gives veterans and their families the opportunity to come together in fellowship, see their memorials and pay respect to their fellow service members,” Grassley said. “I attend as many Iowa Honor Flight visits as possible. It’s an honor to spend time with these true American heroes.”

Grassley, along with Sen. Joni Ernst, recently demanded answers from the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding its national review of all VA health care provider licenses in order to certify that no doctors have been hired illegally. The push followed a disturbing report that shed light on illegal hiring practices at VA hospitals, including the Iowa City VA.

Earlier this year, the Iowa senators introduced bipartisan legislation with Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia to restore the Second Amendment rights of veterans whose names were improperly added to the national gun ban registry.
