Grassley Praises USDA Decision

Sen. Chuck Grassley today learned that USDA Secretary Dan Glickman agreed to expand eligibility for loan deficiency payments (LDP) to include corn cut for silage. Grassley wrote the Agriculture Secretary in August, urging him to take this action that would provide a boost to the nation's livestock producers during the current downturn in the farm economy.

"The USDA made the right decision to expand eligibility for loan deficiency payments to include corn cut for silage. This action addresses the inequity that existed between grain farmers and livestock producers. Farmers are vulnerable this year to low commodity prices and sagging markets overseas, it is critical for Congress and the administration to address this issue with high priority. Don't forget, farmers are the backbone of the Midwestern economy."
