Grassley: President Intends to Nominate Charles Beach for U.S. Marshal

? President Bush today will announce his intention to nominate Charles Beach of Des Moines for U.S. Marshal in Iowa's southern district, said Sen. Chuck Grassley Tuesday.

"With more than 25 years of law enforcement experience through his career with the Secret Service, Charles Beach is well-qualified to serve as U.S. Marshal," Grassley said. "As part of his job, he conducted hundreds of criminal investigations and oversaw security for U.S. and foreign dignitaries traveling in Iowa."

Beach was a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service from 1973 to 1999. He has been a contract employee with the Secret Service since then. Beach holds a bachelor's degree from American University.

U.S. Marshals provide protection for federal judges, investigate federal fugitives, transport federal prisoners and protect federal witnesses. Iowa's southern district is based in Des Moines.

Beach is one of three nominees Grassley forwarded to the White House for consideration last year.
