Grassley: President Intends to Nominate John Quinn for U.S. Marshal

? President Bush today will nominate John Quinn of Cedar Rapids for U.S. Marshal in Iowa's northern district, said Sen. Chuck Grassley Friday.

"John's decades of experience with the Iowa State Patrol, both on the road and working with citizens, make him extremely well qualified to serve as U.S. Marshal," Grassley said. "His experience, management ability and good sound judgment give confidence to those who deal with him."

Quinn began working for the Iowa State Patrol in 1966. He served as assistant district commander with the State Patrol from 1980 until he retired in 2001. As part of his duties, he spent many years operating the security and traffic components for the Farm Progress Show and the World Plowing Expo.

U.S. Marshals provide protection for federal judges, investigate federal fugitives, transport federal prisoners and protect federal witnesses. Iowa's northern district is based in Cedar Rapids.

Quinn is one of three nominees Grassley forwarded to the White House for consideration last year.
