"Linda Reade will be an excellent addition to the federal bench," Grassley said. "She has the necessary experience both in the courtroom and as a judge to effectively serve as U.S. District Court Judge."
Since 1993, Reade has served as Iowa District Court Judge in the fifth judicial district. She served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa from 1986 to 1993. She practiced private law from 1980 to 1986. Reade received her law degree from Drake University Law School in 1980. She received a master's degree from Iowa State University in 1973 and a bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1970.
According to the White House Counsel's office, Reade's nomination will become official after all necessary background checks are completed. Confirmation proceedings in the Senate will follow the official announcement. Grassley is a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, which is responsible for overseeing judicial nominations through the confirmation process.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District has two district judges. A spot on the bench became available when Judge Michael Melloy was confirmed by the Senate for a judgeship on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Reade was one of four nominees Grassley forwarded to the White House for consideration in March.
