Grassley: President Nominates Steve Colloton For Federal Prosecutor in Iowa

? Sen. Chuck Grassley announced today that President Bush has nominated Steve Colloton of Des Moines, to be U.S. Attorney for the southern district of Iowa.

"Steve Colloton is well-qualified for the position," Grassley said. "He has the necessary experience to effectively serve Iowans as one of the state's lead federal prosecutors."

Currently a partner at the Belin Law Firm in Des Moines, Colloton served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the northern district of Iowa from 1991-1994 and 1996-1999. He served as an associate to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr from 1994-1996. Colloton received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his law degree from Yale Law School.

Colloton was one of four candidates Grassley forwarded to the president in April for consideration. Grassley said Colloton's nomination will now go to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will schedule a confirmation hearing.

U.S. attorneys prosecute federal criminal and civil rights cases. The southern district is based in Des Moines.
