WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Chuck
Grassley (R-Iowa) was joined by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Rep. Ashley Hinson
(IA-01) in sending a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
Secretary Pete Buttigieg, encouraging the DOT to utilize funding from the Infrastructure
Investment and Jobs Act – the bipartisan infrastructure bill that Grassley supported – to
construct a new FAA Contract Air Traffic Control Tower at the Dubuque Regional
Airport.
As the letter states, the Dubuque
airport was the busiest Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic tower
in Iowa in 2020 – but much of the equipment is outdated and in need of
replacement.
“Iowa’s regional airports support all
kinds of economic activity, from transporting goods to providing Iowans with
connections to various destinations across the country. It’s critical that we
keep our airport infrastructure up to date to maintain a resilient supply chain
and a healthy economy. I supported the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs
Act to invest in Iowans and Iowa’s economy, and that’s why I am urging
Secretary Buttigieg to utilize the funds in this bill to help improve the
Dubuque airport’s FAA Contract Air Traffic Control Tower,” Grassley said.
The Infrastructure Investment and
Jobs Act contains provisions specifically relating to airports, including
the Airport Terminal Improvement Program to improve air traffic control
infrastructure.
