Q: What is Universal Letter Writing Week?
A: Universal Letter Writing Week is observed every January. The purpose is to encourage people across the world to sit down and write a hand-written letter to a loved one, friend, city official or even members of Congress. I’ve received hundreds of thousands of handwritten letters while serving Iowans as an elected official, and I’m committed to responding to each and every one, no matter what the issue. If you take the time to write me, the least I can do is take the time to respond. I encourage all Iowans to write any time of the year, and I’ll be sure to hold up my end of the deal and respond to your letter.
Q: What other ways can we contact your office?
A: I receive an average of 5,000 pieces of correspondence every week by email, my website, postal mail and fax. I also get a steady stream of communication through Facebook and MySpace. No matter what the form of contact, comments and questions from Iowans are a top priority and I respond to each and every contact. I also work to make myself available in person by holding a meeting in each of
Iowa ’s 99 counties every year. I’ll begin this year’s meetings by traveling in January to 12 Iowa counties to tour businesses, talk with employees, speak to civic groups, and meet with high school students. These events enable me to continue the ongoing dialogue I started with Iowans when I was first elected to the Senate in 1980. The exchange of ideas is fundamental to making representative government work. For information about my visits to your home area, please check my website or call my office at 202/224-3744. Otherwise, I hope you’ll send me a letter. To do so online, go to http://grassley.senate.gov. Or, write to U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, 135 Hart Office Building, Washington , D.C. 20510-1501.
