"Judge Reade's past experience and strong track record of public service make her highly qualified for this position. She has the intellect, integrity and temperament that we expect of all judges," Grassley said. "The sooner we get her into this position, the better. The Senate shouldn't leave this nomination hanging."
Since 1993, Reade has served as Iowa District Court Judge in the fifth judicial district. She served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa from 1986 to 1993. She practiced private law from 1980 to 1986. Reade received her law degree from Drake University Law School in 1980. She received a master's degree from Iowa State University in 1973 and a bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1970.
Reade now awaits confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Grassley is a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and said that he will do all he can to make sure Reade is confirmed by the Senate before the adjournment of the 107th Congress.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District is headquartered in Cedar Rapids and has two district judges. A spot on the bench became available when Judge Michael Melloy was confirmed by the Senate for a judgeship on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Reade was one of four nominees Grassley forwarded to the White House for consideration in March.
