WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley today received recognition from a national law enforcement group for supporting the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Visiting program, which promotes child health and abuse prevention among at-risk families. The group, Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, recognized Grassley for his “continued support for investments in programs that reduce child abuse and neglect and lower crime.”
“I’m grateful for the recognition,” Grassley said. “I’m glad to support a program that gives states the flexibility to use resources as they see fit to help young children and families who are at risk for abuse, neglect and problems down the road. Parents who want to stop the cycle of abuse have the help they need through this program, and we all benefit from their success.”
Grassley received the recognition from Alan Ostergren, Muscatine County Attorney, and John Werden, Carroll County Attorney.
Congress approved an extension of the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Visiting program in the doctor payment legislation approved earlier this year. Grassley supported the program beginning in the Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction.
Grassley, Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee, is former Chairman and Ranking Member of the Finance Committee. He is a long-time advocate for children’s welfare.
